Promote "5S Activities" in ROHM Semiconductor Thailand! ~To keep the workplace in good order and create a more vigorous environment for employees by introducing 5S Management Methodology~

ROHM Semiconductor Thailand (hereafter 'RST'), has always been proactively promoting the 5S activities, and this year they even set the 5S goals, in order to create a workplace where everyone keeps their surrounding clean and tidy and where employees greet each other all the time. By introducing the 5S management system, we are happy to witness every little change the company has made to reform work-style and culture.

In Thailand, they don't have any workplace culture like 5S, which is a workplace organization method that uses a list of five Japanese words: "Seiri", "Seiton", "Seiso", "Seiketsu", and "Shitsuke". These have been translated as "Sort", "Set in order", "Shine", "Standardize", and "Sustain". It is not common for people in Thailand to always keep their desks organized. They would rather put their files or things frequently used to places where they believe are easier to obtain. As for greetings, they don't have the culture that one has to greet each other every single time upon arriving and leaving the company, because such greeting languages don't exist in the first place. Therefore, the committee was established to introduce 5S activities to employees in Thailand.

At the beginning, 3 people from the Health & Safety Committee attended the 5S seminars and learn the basic know-how of the 5S management and operation methods from outside experts. The 5S committee was then established independently from the Health & Safety Committee, in order to enhance the efficiency of decision-making process. The committee also invited employees who are interested in improving and promoting 5S activities to become the members. Moreover, they bring employees to RIST (production site) to experience even more thorough 5S activities at factory level.

At first, employees were reluctant to be in part of the activities. However, during the process of bringing in the system and establishing rules, employees have found it interesting and meaningful to witness the progress and experience the growth of an organized and vigorous workplace that they have created for themselves.

ROHM, as a semiconductor manufacturing company has always been working to improve the management system for its workplace, and we will continue to promote 5S activities, in order to become a better, safer, and without doubt a sustainable company.
